New for the 2015 Made in Hawaiʻi Festival August 21-23, is my Heʻe Nalu Pillow Cover! Heʻe Nalu translates to wave sliding or surfing in Hawaiian. The pillow cover background fabric is a light tan with a brown blockprint and basketweave-like borders.
Heʻe Nalu or wave surfing has been a water sport of Hawaiians since ancient times. Surfboards were long planks of wood, usually made of Koa, with one end rounded. Everyone, including the aliʻi enjoyed heʻe nalu taking to the water when there was surf.
