Some hula implements are: ipu heke – double gourd, ipu – single gourd, pahu – drum, ʻulīʻulī – gourd rattle with feathers, kālaʻau – sticks, puniu – knee drum, ʻiliʻili – smooth stones. Plants associated with hula are maile, lama, ki and palapalai. The lama wood is Laka, goddess of hula, and is placed on an altar, or kuahu, in the hālau hula.
