Nalu, Hawaiian for wave, is the focus of this block print that uses Polynesian tattoo designs. Tattoos, or Kakau, were not just ornamental but also personal expressions of spiritual well being. Kakau were applied by trained Kahuna. A bone needle was tied to a stick, dipped in ink and tapped with a mallet.
