Olena, or tumeric, is an herb from the ginger family. One of the original canoe plants brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers, the plant is known for its medicinal properties, and was also used as a dye in ancient Hawaii. Olena is also known for its beautiful flowering bracts, which are very delicate and can be white, yellow, or pink.
