This blockprint design, ‘Wahine’, is a celebration of Hawaiian women. Hawaiian women were known throughout Polynesia as expert weavers of lauhala and crafters of fine kapa barkcloth, and these traditions continue today. In ancient Hawaiʻi, women were forbidden from eating certain foods such as pig, banana and coconut.
